Amit Shah signals Nitish as Bihar CM, Modi as PM at Samastipur rally amid NDA leadership buzz

Amid concerns about who would lead Bihar if the NDA wins the poll again, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasised Nitish Kumar’s existing position as chief minister on Wednesday, saying that it is “not vacant.” Speaking at a Samastipur polling campaign rally, Shah targeted the opposition’s INDIA bloc, also known as Mahagathbandhan, claiming that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi wants her son Rahul Gandhi to be prime minister and RJD leader Lalu Prasad wants his son Tejashwi to be Bihar’s chief minister.

“Neither of the two posts is vacant,” he claimed. “Nitish Kumar ji is the chief minister of Bihar, and Narendra Modi ji is the prime minister of Delhi,” he said. The home minister’s statement, which was primarily in the present tense, was made the day after Tejashwi Yadav, the head of the RJD and the opposition’s nominee for chief minister, stated that the BJP “will not make Nitish Kumar the CM after the assembly election.”

“In the NDA, Nitish Kumar is a puppet. Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, is merely being used by the BJP. Nitish Kumar would not be the chief minister of Bihar (when), according to Amit Shah, who previously stated that the MLAs will choose the chief minister of Bihar,” Yadav asserted.

Amit Shah has emphasised that MLAs choose the CM through a predetermined process. Although the JDU and BJP have stated that they are running for office “under Nitish Kumar’s leadership,” they have not yet made an official statement regarding their chief minister, unlike the INDIA alliance. “The INDIA alliance has declared me as the CM face, but the NDA has not done even a single press conference to declare who will be the CM face of the NDA,” Tejashwi stated.

The primary struggle between the Mahagathbandhan and the National Democratic Alliance is taking place in Bihar in the lead-up to the 2025 elections. Voting in the state will take place in two stages on November 6 and 11, with the results being tallied on November 14.
