Amid the controversy surrounding the use of animal fat in the preparation of Tirupati laddoo, Indian dairy brand Amul issued a clarification, asserting that it has never supplied ghee (clarified butter) to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). The clarification followed social media claims that Amul’s ghee was involved in the production process of the revered laddoo.
It was stated by Amul that its ghee is made from “high-quality pure milk fat” at its production facilities. It was also added that stringent checks are in place to ensure the quality of their product.
The controversy arose after allegations by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who claimed that animal fat and other sub-standard ingredients were used in the laddoo’s preparation during the tenure of the previous government led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Following these allegations, the Central government, through Union Health Minister JP Nadda, requested a report from the Andhra Pradesh government, promising appropriate action after the matter is thoroughly examined. Additionally, Food Minister Pralhad Joshi called for an investigation into the accusations.
Jagan Mohan Reddy dismissed the allegations, accusing Naidu of using the issue as a distraction to shift public attention away from concerns over Naidu’s 100-day rule. Reddy questioned the fairness of using religious sentiments for political gain. The controversy continues to stir public debate, while investigations are awaited.
