A senior Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) official on Wednesday disclosed that the price of Amul milk will rise by Rs 2 per liter across all brands from July 1. GCMMF markets Amul brand of milk and dairy products.
He further explained that the price was being raised after a gap of almost one year and seven months. He elaborated that the rise in price was required as the production cost has also increased.
RS Sodhi, Managing Director of GCMMF stated, “Price of Amul milk will be increased by Rs 2 per liter across India from tomorrow.” He added that the new be applicable on all Amul Milk brands namely Gold, Taaza, Shakti, T-special including cow and buffalo milk. RS Sodhi further explained that the increase in the price of milk is necessarily due to the rise in food inflation.
He further justified that the cost for packaging have surged up by 30 to 40 per cent and the energy cost too increased by 30 per cent which resulted in the increase in the input cost.
Following the rise in the price, Amul Gold will cost Rs 29 for 500 ml, Amul Taza will be available at Rs 23 for 500 ml and Amul Shakti will be priced at Rs 26 for 500 ml. The GCMMF stated that the Rs 2 per liter hike translates to a 4 per cent increase in MRP which is much lower than the average food inflation.
