YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, joined the Congress party in New Delhi on Thursday, in the presence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi. She also declared the merging of her YSR Telangana Congress with the grand old party and stated that she would fulfil any duty assigned to her.
Sharmila expressed her delight at the consolidation of political forces while speaking to party workers and supporters at the AICC headquarters in the national capital.
“Today, I am very happy to be merging YSR Telangana Party into the Congress party. It gives me immense joy that the YSR Telangana Party is going to be a part of the Indian National Congress from today onwards,” she said.
She also stated that it was her dad’s dream for Rahul Gandhi to become Prime Minister, and she would be happy to assist with that goal.
The merger is seen as a calculated move to strengthen the Congress party in Telangana and build a united front ahead of the forthcoming state elections.
