During its four-day extended weekend in India, the Telugu film Andhra King Taluka earned Rs. 14.75 crore. After a disappointing opening day, the Ram Pothineni film had little development over the weekend and failed to catch on with the trend. Although there seemed to be some good word-of-mouth about the movie, it didn’t seem to have helped.
For a worldwide weekend of slightly less than Rs. 20 crore, the movie earned an additional USD 550K (Rs. 5 crore) abroad, primarily from the United States. The movie had a decent opening day in the US, but it didn’t do well during the weekend either. After the pandemic, lead actor Ram Pothineni is having a difficult time at the box office; none of his films—The Warrrior, Skanda, and Double iSmart—have been successful. Even though it wasn’t enough for them, they all had some kind of opening to show for.
But even the opening was absent in the Andhra King Taluka case. Although this is more of a romantic comedy and those movies were masala entertainers, the genre may have something to do with it, but the numbers are still far too low.
