Angelina Jolie recently shared that her children have little to no interest in stepping into Hollywood, despite growing up around the industry. While speaking at the Santa Barbara Film Festival on February 5, the Maria actress revealed that, unlike her, her kids don’t feel drawn to the world of filmmaking.
Jolie, who shares six children with ex-husband Brad Pitt, admitted that she always wanted her kids to be around films in some capacity. However, they haven’t developed a strong connection to the industry.
“I always wanted them to be around film because I wanted them to know it as a part of—it’s such a wonderful family, to be creative, to be an artist,” she explained. “But they’re not interested.”
She also revealed that her daughter Shiloh, in particular, strongly dislikes the celebrity aspect of Hollywood. “They really don’t like any of the celebrity part of it, especially Shiloh hates it. I think in a very healthy way they don’t… It’s not a normal thing. It’s a silly thing, really,” she added.
Though they may not want to be in front of the camera, Jolie’s children have found ways to engage with film from behind the scenes. Her sons Pax and Maddox have worked as assistant directors on Maria, Jolie’s latest project.
“[You’ve] got to run around and do anything for everybody. And so they’ve been doing that in a few films. And then Pax was doing some of the photography work,” she shared.
Meanwhile, her daughter Vivienne has taken a different creative route, working alongside Jolie on the Broadway production of The Outsiders.
Jolie has often spoken about how she prioritizes her children’s well-being over Hollywood’s expectations. With her kids seemingly uninterested in acting, she supports their individual passions while keeping them involved in creative industries in other ways.
Despite their distance from the limelight, it’s clear that the Jolie-Pitt children have found unique ways to explore artistic expression—just on their own terms.
