Actor Anil Kapoor has revealed that the popularity of his political drama Nayak once opened unexpected doors for him including invitations to join politics. However, the actor chose to walk away from those conversations, saying he could not give public life the full commitment it requires.
In a recent interaction with Screen, Anil reflected on the wave of attention that followed Nayak, where he played a journalist who becomes Chief Minister for a day. The performance struck a chord with audiences and, according to the actor, even caught the attention of political parties. Without naming anyone, Anil shared that the offers were indirect and exploratory, but he “nipped it in the bud” early on.
He explained that entering politics is not something he could treat casually. “If I do something, I have to do it sincerely and genuinely,” he said, adding that he does not believe in taking up roles merely for visibility.
The actor also drew parallels with the period after Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, when global recognition led to international organisations approaching him. Anil maintained that he avoided token appearances, including offers linked to the United Nations, as he did not want to treat them as photo opportunities. Currently focused on films, Anil will next be seen in Alpha, directed by Shiv Rawail, alongside Alia Bhatt and Sharvari.
