Before delivering one of his biggest hits with Animal, Ranbir Kapoor faced one of the toughest phases of his career. After returning to the big screen with Shamshera in 2022 following a four-year break, the actor was met with disappointment when the film failed at the box office. Now, his Animal co-star Anil Kapoor has shared how deeply the setback had affected Ranbir during their initial days on set.
Speaking at the FICCI Frames event, Anil Kapoor recalled the moment vividly. He revealed that Ranbir came to the Animal set feeling low after Shamshera’s release. “He was very down and said, ‘Sab mujhe dekh rahe hai. Itni badhi flop di hai maine,’” Anil shared, adding that he encouraged the actor by saying, “Let’s just give a good shot, you’ll forget everything by tomorrow.”
Anil further explained how he reminded Ranbir not to dwell on failure. “You’re imagining that people are looking at you or judging you. Success and failure are never in your control. Once you accept what happened and work honestly, you move on,” the actor said.
Interestingly, their collaboration on Animal not only strengthened their on-screen chemistry as father and son but also turned into a massive success. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial went on to become Ranbir’s highest-grossing film, with fans now eagerly awaiting its sequel, Animal Park.
