Anil Kumble: Top records by the “Milestone Man”

Anil Kumble also known as “Jumbo” by his teammates was arguably the best spinner produced by India. He has taken most no. of wickets for India in both One-Day Internationals and Test Cricket.      He was also appointed as the coach of the Indian Cricket Team from 2016 till 2017.

Here are some records held by the great Leg Spinner.

  1. Kumble holds the record to take 10 wickets in a test match against Pakistan in Firoz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi. He is the only second bowler in the history of cricket to achieve that feat and the only Indian and spinner to do so.
  2. He won the Padma Shree award in 2005.
  3. He holds the Indian record of claiming the most number of ODI wickets in a calendar year with 61 wickets in 1996.
  4. He was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2015.
  5. He holds the record of most no. of Test, ODI, and International wickets for India and third in the list of the world after Muttiah Murlidharan and Shane Warne.
  6. Kumble has bowled 40850 balls in his entire test career, the second-highest in the world after Muttiah Murlidharan.
  7. Kumble holds the Indian record of most ODI wickets in a single ground, He has taken 56 wickets in Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
  8. He received the Arjuna award in 1995.
  9. He holds the record for the largest no of caught and bowled dismissals (35) in test cricket, which form 5.65% of his total wickets.
  10. He also holds the record of best bowling figures in an IPL match by an Indian. He took five wickets for five runs against Rajasthan Royals in 2009.
