Veteran actor Anupam Kher has come out in strong support of the blockbuster success of Dhurandhar 2, while dismissing ongoing debates that label certain films as propaganda. Speaking at the International Film Festival Delhi 2026, the actor emphasised that audiences are capable of making their own choices and should not be underestimated.
The spy thriller, headlined by Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, has been enjoying an exceptional run at the box office, crossing the ₹1000-crore mark worldwide within just a week of its release. The film has drawn large crowds to theatres, a response Kher believes reflects genuine audience appreciation rather than influence.
Addressing the “propaganda” debate, Kher stated that such labels should not distract from celebrating cinematic achievements. He noted that viewers willingly fill theatres because they connect with the content, adding that their choices reflect their own preferences rather than external narratives.
The actor also spoke about the dual nature of cinema as both an art form and a business. While films can influence individuals, he pointed out that they are also commercial ventures, much like other industries. According to him, what audiences take away from a film depends on personal interpretation.
Kher had earlier shared his admiration for the film on social media, revealing that he personally reached out to Dhar to congratulate him. Praising Ranveer’s performance, he highlighted the emotional depth and intensity brought to the role, calling it both powerful and moving.
