In his decades-long career in entertainment, veteran actor Anupam Kher has been in hundreds of films. Recently, he shared some amusing memories from his time at the National School of Drama (NSD), particularly the time he experimented with marijuana and ‘bhang’.
The 70-year-old talked about how these prior experiences made him recognise that he should never attempt these narcotics again in life during his interview on Unfiltered by Samdish on YouTube. Speaking about his first experience with marijuana, Anupam revealed that after taking “two drags” of the drug, he began to gaze up at the sky. He claimed to have begun seeing a plane that appeared to have taken off from the airport. He stared at it until it “became a tiny dot in the sky.”
He continued by joking, “I think I kept looking at it until it must have landed at Heathrow Airport.” He felt confused and nervous after the encounter. “I had gone crazy,” he declared. This was not the end of it. Anupam began to feel “if the road was moving or the car was moving” that same day as he was sitting in his car.
Anupam began thinking back to his time as a student at the esteemed National School of Drama in the nation’s capital later in the episode. The actor recalled how his insane “bhang” encounter made him giggle nonstop for several hours. “I laughed for eight hours straight when I tried it, and I vowed I would never do it again,” Anupam remarked. Several of Anupam’s classmates also lost their minds after trying “bhang.” “The army is coming,” my high-ranking batchmates informed the warden while standing on the patio. I begged them to save me, telling them repeatedly that I would die laughing,” he said.
He mentioned that the amusing aspect of this situation was that he was waiting for his friend to respond, but no one could understand what he was saying. According to Anupam, the circumstances were “exactly like how they show things in Jim Carrey’s film The Mask.”
