Veteran actor Anupam Kher has spoken openly about his relationship with fellow actor Naseeruddin Shah, revealing that Shah recently apologised for the harsh remarks he made in 2020. In a conversation with Samdish on his YouTube channel, Kher said that despite their differences, he continues to hold deep respect for Shah.
In 2020, Naseeruddin Shah had publicly criticised Kher during an interview, calling him a “clown” and accusing him of being overly supportive of the government. At the time, Kher had responded strongly on social media, releasing a lengthy video taking on the comments.
However, Kher has now shared that the two met recently at the prayer meet of filmmaker HD Pathak, where Shah approached him with an apology. “He hugged me and said, ‘Sorry, yaar!’” Kher recalled. “I always hug him when we meet. I genuinely like him a lot, and he is one of the actors who inspired me to take up acting.”
Kher also hinted that Shah’s occasional sharp remarks may stem from deeper emotions. “He is brilliant and intelligent, and no one is a bigger star than him in parallel cinema. But sometimes, there is a kind of bitterness sometimes towards me, sometimes towards others like Dilip Kumar or Rajesh Khanna,” he said.
Reflecting on the past controversy, Kher acknowledged Shah’s earlier criticism but suggested that he has moved on. Their recent warm exchange appears to mark a more positive chapter between the two celebrated actors.
