Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap frequently expresses his open and honest thoughts about current developments in the motion picture business. T-Series, the biggest music label in India, was criticized by the director of Gangs of Wasseypur and Dev D in an interview with The Juggernaut, who claimed that they “don’t understand” what makes good music. Additionally, Anurag said that the label paid relatively little for the soundtrack in his highly acclaimed films, such as Dev D and Gangs of Wasseypur.
Anurag was questioned during the conversation regarding the role that music plays in his movies, such as Gangs of Wasseypur and Dev D. He stated, “The idea is not to cater to the market. If T-Series, Bhushan Kumar, is not buying it, then it is good music. T Series doesn’t buy good music at a good price. They paid very less for Dev D, Gangs of Wasseypur or Gulaal. They only pay for who is the star in it. They don’t pay for the quality of music. They paid nothing for Dev D music. Ask the producers, UTV studios… they don’t understand what’s good music. They will only pay for a certain kind of music and only push for that.”
“The highest amount of money they paid for any of my movies is Bombay Velvet. As music it was very good but it worked the least for them. Because nobody wanted to listen to jazz. They paid the highest price for that and not Dev D or Gangs of Wasseypur,” he adds.
Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor played the main characters in Bombay Velvet. The movie did poorly at the box office and garnered mixed reviews when it was first released. On the other hand, Amit Trivedi’s soundtrack to the movie was praised. In addition, he got the National Award for Best Music Direction for his work on Kashyap’s Dev D.
