Wistron, a Taiwanese company that supplies equipment to Apple Inc. is planning to restart their factory in Kolar district in Karnataka which was shut last year because of workers rampaging at the site.
The Taiwanese company said that they are trying to make fix issues in their Narasapura plant in Kolar. “We are looking forward to restaring our operations and welcoming back team members, and we thank them for their patience and support as we worked through corrective actions”, they said. Wistron manufactures many products for Apple including the iPhone 7 and the iPhone SE in Kolar district. The workers complained of long working hours and salary cuts. The contractors were blamed for withholding payment and taking some of the workers’ wages for themselves.
Apple then investigated the issue and found anomalies, after which they withdrew any new business with Wistron. Wistron took responsibility by firing their vice-president.
