Apple to move base ‘core products’ from China to India, Vietnam

Apple is moving their production of iPhones, iPads and Macbooks from China to India and Vietnam. They will start production of iPads in Vietnam by mid-2021 and will also start production of 5G phones i.e. the iPhone 12 in India as soon as this quarter, according to Nikkei Asia.

Computers, earphones and smart speakers will also stop production in China and move elsewhere. Production of HomePod speakers especially will be ramped up in Vietnam. It was launched in 2020 and is manufactured in Vietnam since its launch.

Mac mini production, meanwhile, already moved to Malaysia. The Nikkei Asia reports states that Apple is not alone in willing to move out of China and that many tech companies are looking at other countries.
