Ella Purnell has firmly established herself as a standout in the world of video game adaptations, particularly with her roles as Jinx in Arcane and Lucy Maclean in Fallout. Both projects have garnered significant praise, with Arcane being a critical success as an animated League of Legends show on Netflix, and Fallout capturing attention with its live-action adaptation on Prime Video. However, despite her success in these high-profile roles, Purnell is wary of becoming typecast in the gaming space.
In an interview with PopVerse, Purnell expressed her concerns about being pigeonholed into video game adaptations. Although she acknowledged that landing two successful roles in this space is a rare achievement, she is eager to avoid being defined solely by her roles in these types of projects. “I think I need to stay away from video game adaptations now because I’m going to get typecast,” Purnell said. She recognizes that there are worse things than being typecast, but for her, diversifying her career is important.
Despite this, fans will still see Purnell in the Fallout universe, as she is set to return for season 2 of the series. However, beyond that, Purnell seems to be steering away from future video game roles to focus on other opportunities.
Outside of her work in Arcane and Fallout, Purnell has been busy with a variety of other projects. She is currently leading the cast of Sweetpea, a new Starz miniseries, and has voiced characters in multiple sci-fi and comic-related animated projects. Purnell will also be appearing in The Scurry, a comedy-horror film about vengeful squirrels, and the animated Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, which is currently in production.
Fans will have to wait a bit longer for Fallout season 2, as its release is speculated for 2026 due to the production timeline of season 1. But if these are indeed Purnell’s final video game adaptations, fans can continue to enjoy her work in Arcane and Fallout while eagerly awaiting her other upcoming projects.
