FIFA Qualifier: Argentina and Chile match ended 1-1 in Qatar

Lionel Messi scored a penalty and put Argentina in the lead but not for long as Chile’s Alexis Sanchez scored the equalizer and leveled the scores.

Guillermo Maripan brought down Lautaro Martinez in the box and conceded the penalty and Messi took the opportunity and converted the penalty into a goal that put the Argentinian side into the lead. Alexis Sanchez scored a beautiful goal and brought back his team in the game. At half time, the scores were level.

In the second half, the Argentinian side looked more in attacking mode but they lacked the finishing. Chile’s defending in the second half was rock solid even without their dependable holding midfielder Arturo Vidal who missed out the match.

Chile’s goalkeeper Claudio Bravo did some great saves to deny Messi and Company many times. Messi did try to get all three points from the match in the last 5 minutes but Bravo denied his efforts. Both the teams were looking a little rusty, Argentina is playing a competitive match at Santiago del Estero after 6 months. They played the last match in November.

Argentina is second with 11 points where Chile is at sixth place with 5 points in 10 teams South American qualifying group for Qatar 2022.

Brazil is at the top with 12 points in four games.
