Arijit Singh announces retirement from playback singing; says he will continue making music

Renowned singer Arijit Singh has announced that he will retire from playback singing, leaving fans across India and the world shocked. Taking to Instagram, Arijit shared a heartfelt note thanking his fans for their years of support while confirming that he will not take any new assignments as a playback vocalist. “Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey,” he wrote.

The announcement follows a series of posts on his private X account, where Arijit reflected on his career and expressed gratitude for his journey. “GOD has been really kind to me. I am a fan of good music and in future will be learning more and do more on my own as a small little artist. Thanks again for all your support,” he added.

Despite stepping away from playback singing, Arijit clarified that he is not leaving music entirely. Responding to fans’ queries, he said, “Just to be clear that I won’t stop making music.” When one fan asked him to “justify your inappropriate decision,” the singer responded with a laughing emoji, showing his lighthearted approach to the surprise announcement.

Over the years, Arijit Singh has delivered numerous chart-topping hits including Tum Hi Ho, Binte Dil, Kesariya, and many more, making him one of the most celebrated voices of contemporary Bollywood. While fans may no longer hear his songs in films, they can look forward to his music outside the industry.
