Armaan Malik and wives summoned by Patiala court over bigamy and religious sentiment cases

YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT 3 fame Armaan Malik and his two wives, Payal and Kritika Malik, are facing legal heat after a Patiala district court issued summons in connection with two different cases. The court has directed all three to appear on 2 September, following a petition by Davinder Rajput.

The petitioner has alleged that Armaan Malik has not just two, but four marriages, in violation of the Hindu Marriage Act, which allows only one marriage at a time for individuals practising Hinduism. The complaint further accuses Armaan and Payal of hurting religious sentiments after Payal appeared dressed as Hindu goddess Kali in a video posted on Instagram. The video sparked outrage, with claims that it insulted religious beliefs and was a punishable offence under Indian law.

In an attempt to address the backlash, Armaan and Payal visited the Kali Mata Temple in Patiala on 22 July, offering prayers and apologising for their actions. The following day, they appeared at another Kali temple in Kharar, Mohali, where Payal reportedly undertook a seven-day religious punishment, including cleaning the temple and performing rituals. Later, the couple travelled to Haridwar to seek forgiveness from Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Kailashanand Giri of the Niranjani Akhara. During this time, Payal’s health reportedly worsened, leading to her hospitalisation in Mohali.

Armaan Malik, whose real name is Sandeep, hails from Hisar, Haryana. Before his online fame, he worked at a private bank in Delhi. His rise as a content creator eventually led him to participate in Bigg Boss OTT Season 3, which premiered on 21 June 2024, where he appeared alongside both wives. Their unconventional family dynamic has kept them in the spotlight ever since.
