Chilling details have emerged of a brutal assault on an Army officer and his fiancée at the Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The couple had approached the station on September 14 to file a complaint regarding a road rage incident, but their ordeal escalated into an alleged assault by police officers.
The woman has accused police of sexual assault and physical abuse, alleging that she was repeatedly kicked, undressed, and pulled by her hair. In a horrifying story, she said that her legs were wrapped with a scarf and her hands were bound with her own jacket before she was attacked. She also claimed that a police inspector touched her and exposed himself.
The woman, who was arrested in the aftermath, was granted bail by the Orissa High Court, which took into account the gravity of the situation. In a desperate effort to defend herself, she reportedly bit one of the officers, but her attempt was met with further abuse. Meanwhile, the Army officer was detained in a lockup, unable to protect his fiancée.
As the incident sparked nationwide outrage, Odisha Police suspended five officers, including the Inspector-in-charge of Bharatpur Police Station. The police department is now under intense scrutiny, and investigations are ongoing. The case has brought to light serious concerns about police misconduct and brutality in the state.
