Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner involved in tunnel brawl between USMNT and Canada after Gold Cup quarter-final; Watch

Following their Gold Cup quarter-final match on Sunday night, tensions between the US and Canadian football teams exploded.

The match proceeded to penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw, which the USMNT won 3-2 because of the heroics of Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Turner, on the other hand, seems to have been forced into the role of peacekeeper after the players engaged in a brawl in the tunnel soon after the full-time whistle, a video of which was only dropped on Monday.

As per Marca, the Americans mocked their opponents as they walked down the tunnel following an ill-tempered match in which the referee gave 6 yellow cards.

In a video posted by TUDN USA, calm quickly changed to chaos as players made their way to the locker room, but it is unclear what triggered the fight. Turner arrived on the scene during the chaos and tried to separate the two groups of players with a helping hand of security.

The USA will take on Panama in the semi-finals on Thursday and if they win, they will take on either Jamaica or Mexico in the finals in California on Monday.

Turner, who is leading his nation in the absence of Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic, saved two penalties in the shootout and earned a good reputation for keeping out spot-kicks.
