Arsenal keeping tabs on transfer target Alexander Isak

Arsenal are among the clubs tracking the progress of Alexander Isak.

Arsenal possess a variety of options in the striker/No.9 position including the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah and highly rated youth prospect Folarin Balogun who just signed a new deal before the end of last season.

Club captain Aubameyang signed a new deal on the back of the 2019/20 campaign as Arsenal won the FA Cup with the Gabonese striker being a key player, and Arsenal do not look to sell him. Arsenal are reportedly looking to sell Lacazette who has only a year left on his current contract. Martinelli has been seen training as a No. 9, as the club views him as a forward that can lead an attackers line. Nketiah has been offered new terms by Arsenal as he has only one year left on his current contract and the club look to get some leverage in a potential sale of the player. Balogun along with other u23 Hale End youth prospects might go out on loan, with various Championship clubs interested in the player.

Mikel Arteta and the hierarchy at Arsenal target a striker that can fulfil the traditional attacking duties of a No.9 and also get involved in the buildup leading to attacking moves. Isak fits this targeted mould and is reportedly high on the priority list of the Arsenal board. However, a possible hiccup could be the 60-70 million euros asking price set on the Sweden international by Real Sociedad. This price could also see a potential rise depending on Isak’s Euro 2020 tournament as he has been called up to the Sweden Euro squad.

The 21-year old Isak put up a sensational display against Spain in their Euro 2020 group stage match with brilliant playmaking and set up many chances for his teammates. In 34 appearances for Real Sociedad in the 2020/21 La Liga season, Isak scored 17 goals and racked up 2 assists.
