On Day 4, Assi, directed by Anubhav Sinha, added Rs 60-65 lakh. That represents a 35% decrease from its opening day, which is normally regarded acceptable but not at this level of collecting, where you need to match the first day and even then it may not be enough. The four-day total stands at over Rs. 4.75 crore nett.
The film must sustain its current pace and expand through word-of-mouth exposure, as word-of-mouth appears to be positive. Based on current patterns, Taapsee Pannu’s courtroom drama is expected to gross roughly Rs. 6.50 crore in its first week. Given there are no large releases till Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic, the Anubhav Sinha film has a decent chance of shifting the tables in its favour.
However, this will be difficult because the film’s popularity remains modest. Sinha and Taapsee’s previous collaboration was Thappad, which grossed roughly Rs. 13 crore in its opening weekend and went on to earn around Rs. 30 crore nett.
This would be a fantastic total for a picture like this in today’s times, considering cinema business has declined significantly since OTT flourished in India. It will be intriguing to see how Assi does at the box office and if it can become a successful story.
