Aston Villa sign Emiliano Buendia from Norwich on a permanent deal

Aston Villa has announced a £40 million deal to sign Norwich City midfielder Emiliano Buendia. The midfielder is currently on international duty with Argentina and will undergo his physical test on Tuesday, following a World Cup qualifying game against Colombia.

With additional add-ons, Villa’s cost may reach around £40 million. Following Norwich’s promotion to the Premier League, Buendia was voted Championship player of the season for 2020-21. He had 15 goals and 16 assists while creating more chances than any other player in the division.

Villa’s signing of Buendia is an ambitious move that signals their ambition to compete for Europa League spots, with the midfielder widely regarded as one of the most brilliant players outside the top division. Villa, who revealed on Tuesday that Buendia will sign on the dotted line, are bracing themselves for a move for their star midfielder Jack Grealish.

Buendia and Grealish share many parallels, as both are attacking midfielders who are technically brilliant and have tremendous creative abilities. Villa is determined to keep Grealish, but the big-money signing of Buendia may indicate that they are content to lose him this summer, with the chance of Champions League play enticing the Englishman.

Manchester City and Manchester United are both said to be planning £100 million bids for the England international in the coming months.
