ATM heist accused tells police about how money was stolen from the deposit machines

According to a police release, from 15th June to 18th June around 14 cases of fraud in SBI ATMs had taken place across the city with more than five groups suspected to be involved in the social evil. As per the investigation conducted by a special team, it was revealed that some of the accused were from the northern states who had committed these offences.

During the investigation, a person identified as Amir Arsh from Ballabhgarh, Haryana was arrested by the special team with the help of the Haryana state police. The statement added that an amount of ₹45 lakh was drawn. Along with providing other leads, the accused confessed to the crime during an interrogation and explained the modus operandi.

According to the statement, To arrest the remaining accused,  the special team is camping at Faridabad and a sum of ₹4.5 lakh had been recovered from the arrested person along with learning that more than five groups had operated in Chennai city.

Located in various places, an amount of over ₹48 lakh was been stolen from deposit machines as well as automated cash withdrawal machines according to the police. The suspects would prevent the lid from getting closed for a while using their hands after they took the cash using withdrawal option from the machines, and the sensor would misread this action as “cash not being taken away,” in turn sending a message to servers that cash has not been withdrawn, as indicated by the probe.
