Aviation Ministry to privatize Indian airports by 2022

The Central government has decided to privatize airports by 2022 and Airport Authority of India is currently looking at the possibility of offloading loss making airports which also includes the profitable airports.

Pradeep Kharola, Secretary Civil Aviation Ministry announced that the AAI is looking to give non-profit airports & profit ones too as a package and could give away 6-10 airports. The airports will be given for 50 years. Kharola also mentioned that the Air India’s disinvestment is at the advance stage.

Also talking about the regional air connectivity scheme UDAN he said that the amount allocated in the budget has increased to Rs.600 crore from Rs.430 crore and the  main focus will be on the development of 100 airports and the fare bands will increase in future as soon as normal operation starts.
