The trailer for the upcoming horror musical Opus has just dropped, and it’s already got fans buzzing with excitement. Ayo Edebiri, who’s been taking Hollywood by storm with standout roles in The Bear, Bottoms, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, leads the film as Ariel, a young magazine writer who stumbles upon a dark, mysterious world. The film, directed by Mark Anthony Green, centers on Ariel as she investigates the bizarre reappearance of a pop star named Moretti, who vanished without a trace decades ago.
In the trailer, Edebiri’s character is invited to a private listening party for Moretti’s long-awaited new album, setting the stage for a suspense-filled exploration of celebrity obsession and hidden secrets. “Mr. Moretti will be playing the greatest album of modern times…future times, all the times, really,” says Tony Hale’s character, adding to the cult-like allure surrounding the pop star.
As Ariel embarks on this chilling adventure, she joins Moretti’s devoted followers on a private jet, accompanied by her colleague (played by Murray Bartlett). The interactions with the “creepy greeter” and other bizarre characters are sure to add to the growing sense of unease. The setting of the listening party is nothing short of unsettling — everyone is dressed in matching blue uniforms, and the food is all blue, giving off major cult vibes.
Things take a darker turn when Moretti addresses the crowd like they are his blind followers, and Ariel’s suspicions grow as she starts witnessing strange and sinister events unfold. “Is this not alarming to you?” she asks in the trailer, as the tension builds. The official synopsis reveals more of the chilling plot: “A young writer is invited to the remote compound of a legendary pop star who mysteriously disappeared thirty years ago. Surrounded by the star’s cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she finds herself in the middle of his twisted plan.”
In addition to Edebiri, the film boasts an impressive cast including Stephanie Suganami, Tatanka Means, Juliette Lewis, John Malkovich, and Bartlett. With its eerie blend of music, suspense, and psychological horror, Opus is poised to be one of 2025’s most intriguing releases.
With Edebiri having already captivated audiences in 2024 with her roles across multiple acclaimed projects, Opus promises to be yet another powerful performance from the rising star. Fans won’t have to wait long, as Opus is set to hit theaters on March 14, 2025.
