This weekend saw the release of a remastered and re-edited version of Baahubali, SS Rajamouli’s masterpiece. The film, titled Baahubali: The Epic, is a three-hour, forty-five-minute snippet of the two 2015 and 2017 releases. Even though the initial few performances have just concluded, the recently re-released version is breaking box office records.
Both in India and abroad, Baahubali: The Epic has performed remarkably well in terms of advance booking collections. According to Sacnilk, by Thursday afternoon, the movie had made ₹5 crore from domestic and international advance sales. By the end of the day, the total had increased to more over ₹6 crore each. For an Indian film that has been re-released, this is the greatest advance booking total ever.
When Baahubali: The Epic is released, it may make ₹10–12 crore net in India and above ₹20–25 crore gross globally, according to trade sources. This number may potentially surpass the box office receipts of some of this year’s biggest Telugu flicks. For example, Thandel made ₹10 crore on its debut day, while Mirai opened at ₹12 crore this year.
It would be a historic accomplishment if the re-release of Baahubali The Epic could outperform fresh releases. On its opening day, the movie is expected to shatter three significant records. With a re-release gross of ₹5.1 crore nationally, it will easily surpass the best-opening re-release in Indian cinema history, a record now held by Pawan Kalyan’s Gabbar Singh.
The Prabhas and Rana Daggubati film will surpass Ghilli’s record of ₹8 crore on a global scale as well. Mahesh Babu’s Khaleja has been the highest-grossing re-release in Telugu film history. In its second run, it made more than ₹11 crore. Baahubali On the first day itself, the Epic will blow this number away. If word-of-mouth continues to be favourable, the movie is also anticipated to cross the ₹100 crore milestone.
The two SS Rajamouli-directed Baahubali films, which are period action fantasys, were produced for a total of 500 crore. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion became the highest-grossing Indian film ever, a record it held until Dangal overtook it a few months later.
The two films made nearly ₹2400 crore globally. Prabhas played the title character in both movies, while important roles were played by Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Sathyaraj.
