Badlapur Case: Acused Akshay Shinde attempts suicide with a service revolver

On Monday, Akshay Shinde, the man who was accused of rape in Badlapur, shot himself while he was being held by the police.

Akshay Shinde, the main suspect in the sexual assault case at the Badlapur school, attempted suicide while being driven by police, in a startling change of events. Shinde gained access to a service revolver during the encounter, which left the police officer sitting next to him critically injured.

Shinde was being moved about as part of the ongoing investigation into the horrific assault that has rocked the neighbourhood when the incident happened. Based on reports, Shinde shot himself after managing to take hold of the officer’s service handgun while he was in handcuffs. Reports state that he is in critical condition.

After being accused of sexually abusing two girls at a school in the Thane district of Maharashtra’s Badlapur town, Akshay Shinde was taken into custody. On August 1, the school hired the 24-year-old sweeper on a contract basis through a cleaning firm.On August 17, the police had taken the alleged accused into custody. According to the allegation, he mistreated two kindergarten girls in the school’s lavatory.

When locals and parents of the affected students vandalised a nearby school building and blocked train tracks at Badlapur station last month, a major protest ensued. The purpose of the demonstration was to demand harsh punishment for the accused and to voice outrage about the occurrence.
