British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has revealed ten Indian promising talents in the film, television, and gaming industries as a part of its inaugural Breakthrough India initiative. The participants will be granted free access to all BAFTA events and screenings over the course of the year along with full voting BAFTA membership. The honourees will also be receiving global networking opportunities and mentoring from industry experts.
This year, the number of honourees was doubled the number originally announced because of the number of quality applicants the jury received, serving as a testament to the level and amount of creative talent the country has to offer. Industry experts, including Anupam Kher, Netflix India chief Monika Shergill, filmmaker Mira Nair and producer Siddharth Roy Kapur acted as part of the jury who selected the participants. The honorees include;
- Writer/producer Akshay Singh (The Gold-Laden Sheep and The Sacred Mountain);
- Writer/director Arun Karthick (Nasir);
- Cinematographer Jay Pinak Oza (Gully Boy);
- Composer Karthikeya Murthy (KD (A) Karuppudurai);
- Actor Palomi Ghosh (Nachom-ia Kumpasar);
- Writer/director Renu Savant (The Ebb Tide);
- Game Developer and Art Director Shruti Ghosh (Raji- An Ancient Epic);
- Writer/Director/Editor Sumit Purohit (Scam 1992);
- Actor Tanya Maniktala (A Suitable Boy);
- Director Vikram Singh (Elephants In My Backyard)
Along with the list of selected participants, BAFTA also announced a delay in opening applications that will be received for the next Breakthrough India initiative, which was originally due to open along with applications from the United States and the United Kingdom from 10 June.
