BAFTA Head Tightens Security Amidst Last Year’s Oppenheimer Prank?

With the BAFTA Awards approaching, the team is working hard to ensure a smooth event, taking extra precautions after last year’s chaotic Oppenheimer prank. In addition to ramping up security, the BAFTA team is staying focused on supporting those affected by the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.

Anna Higgs, BAFTA’s committee chairperson, addressed the crisis during the afternoon nomination event, sharing that the BAFTA North America team is in constant contact with those impacted. She acknowledged that many members from both the UK and around the world are concerned for their loved ones in L.A. “We have a small but mighty team in L.A.,” Higgs explained. “We’re working out the best ways to support them.” In response to the fires, they’ve already canceled the BAFTA tea party, one of their key events, as an immediate action to show solidarity.

As for security at the upcoming awards ceremony, Higgs assured that enhanced protocols would be in place to prevent any issues. “We’ve conducted a comprehensive review,” she said, although she was careful not to disclose specifics for security reasons. As the situation evolves day by day, the BAFTA team is staying proactive to ensure both safety and support for those in need.
