Bangladesh’s Shahadat Hossain makes a comeback to competitive cricket, after a 18 months of ban

Bangladesh cricket Sahadat Hossain who had got banned in November 2019 for five years as he had slapped a teammate during a first-class match has now made a comeback to competitive cricket after he played a Dhaka Premier League game on Saturday. However, the BCB has not made any official statement on the issue of the player’s reduction of Ban.

As reported by Cricinfo, Hossain has bowled two wicketless overs for Partex Sporting Club on his return against Old DOHS Sports Club. Also, the sporting website has learned that the Bangladesh paceman need not stay away from the game for more than 18 months and he has completed his five-year Ban.

In February, Shahadat had applied to Bangladesh Cricket Board to reduce the tenure of his Ban so that he makes a comeback and play the game so that he could treat his mother who’s suffering from cancer disease. With regards to this, BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan had taken up the Bangladesh pacer’s case with the board’s superiors.

Speaking to Somoy TV, Khan said the cricketer is facing a financial problem. Akram also added “His mother is diagnosed with cancer. He is not playing cricket now so when he called me, I spoke to a few directors. We have requested the BCB’s disciplinary committee. We are hopeful to get a positive result from them. I have also informed the board president, who is also positive about him. Insha Allah, we hope that he can play in the NCL (National Cricket League).”

The incident had taken place when Hossan had slapped his teammate when he refused to shine the ball for the fast bowler. After the incident took place, the Bangladesh cricketer was made to pay BDT 100,000 (the US $1200 approx.) and a five-year ban with two years as suspended sentencing.

The 34-year cricketer has played 38 Test, 51 ODIs, and 6 T20 games for the Bangladesh national side
