Barcelona signed Argentina’s forward Sergio Aguero from Manchester City on a free transfer. Sergio Aguero has agreed to a two-year deal with a €100 million buyout clause.
Barca was looking for signing a striker after they sold their star attacking player Luis Suarez to Atletico Madrid. After the departure of Suarez last summer, Barca was looking for a replacement to help Lionel Messi in the attack. Messi was not getting the support from other players in front that cost them in many matches as they lost many points.
As a replacement for Suarez, Barcelona showed interest in Aguero after Manchester City decided to let the striker go at the end of his contract.
The Argentinian striker was with Manchester City for a decade and turn out to be one of the greatest performers for the club. He helped Manchester City to win 5 Premier League Titles, 6 EFL Cups, and 1 FA Cup. He has scored 260 goals in 390 matches across all competitions for Manchester City becoming their record scorer in the process.
Messi and Aguero have been International teammates for a long time now and have good chemistry between them. They played alongside each other in 2005 when Argentina won the U20 World Cup. They were also gold medal winners at the Olympic Games in 2008.
Barcelona will be hoping that Sergio Aguero will have the same chemistry with Messi while playing for the club and sort the problem of helping Messi in the attack.
Barca has said in a statement on their official website: “FC Barcelona and Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero have reached an agreement for the player to join the Club from 1 July when his contract with Manchester City expires.
