Bayern Munich beat local side Rottach-Egern 27-0 in pre-season match

Rottach-Egern, a ninth-tier team, was seriously mistaken in believing Bayern Munich would use Tuesday’s preseason match as a chance to gently shake off the rust after a long break. The ruthless German champions grabbed a 27-0 victory.

The game was part of Bayern’s pre-tournament training camp in Tegernsee, and amateur club Rottach-Egern were all smiles as they posed for the pre-match picture.

The grins immediately faded, however, when Jamal Musiala, whose late winner in the final game of last season won Bayern’s title, scored in the third minute.

Bayern led 18-0 at halftime before manager Thomas Tuchel made a lineup change for the second half, which was equally one-way traffic.

Musiala, Marcel Sabitzer and Mathys Tel each had five goals, while Serge Gnabry had a hat-trick, with 13 different players scoring.

“We’re further along than before, were very hard-working. It’s strenuous and challenging, but everyone’s ready,” Tuchel said after the game.

Preseason games against Rottach-Egern have become a tradition for Bayern, who won 23-0 in 2019. Rottach-Egern did manage to score twice in a match in 2018, but ultimately lost 20-2.
