Bayern Munich signed Eric Dier from Tottenham on Thursday for the rest of the season, with the England defender dubbing the move “a dream come true.”
The agreement permits Dier, 29, to reunite with former Tottenham teammate Harry Kane, who went to Bayern in August.
“As a child you want to play for a club like Bayern one day,” Dier said in a statement, calling his new side “one of the biggest in the world with an incredible history.”
Thomas Tuchel, the coach of Bayern Munich, stated earlier on Thursday that the deal was close and that “he is in Munich.”
Dier has agreed on a short-term contract with his new employers that will last until June 30.
Dier, whose deal with Tottenham was also slated to expire this summer, joins for a rumoured cost of four million euros ($4.38 million). He can play as a centre-back, defensive midfielder, or right-back.
Dier was born in England but raised in Portugal, moving from his hometown club Sporting Lisbon to Tottenham in 2014. He played 49 games for England and scored three goals. Dier has only made four appearances for Tottenham this season.
Talking about Bayern, the club is currently second in the Bundesliga, four points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, with a game in hand.
