Released in 2015, the Sharat Katariya directed film, produced by Yash Raj Films, challenged Bollywood’s traditional romantic narratives by portraying a touching love story between an overweight woman and her hesitant husband. The film was widely praised for its unique storyline, powerful performances by the cast including Sanjay Mishra and Seema Pahwa and its nostalgic 1990s backdrop.
Marking her 10 year journey in the industry, Bhumi Pednekar expressed gratitude to her fans and well-wishers in an Instagram post. “A decade of dreams, hard work, and the most incredible journey as an actor! My heart is filled with gratitude for every person who has been a part of this journey,” she wrote, acknowledging the lessons of resilience and self-belief.
For Ayushmann Khurrana, Dum Laga Ke Haisha was a turning point. “The film gave me a fresh lease of life in the industry. I have never looked back since, using the lessons from this film to shape my career with content-driven, feel-good cinema,” he said in a statement.
Reflecting on his early struggles, Khurrana admitted facing setbacks after his debut Vicky Donor due to underwhelming performances of subsequent films. “The industry is brutal we are born every Friday and our obituaries are written every Friday. Dum Laga Ke Haisha changed everything,” he remarked.
