Actor Bhumi Pednekar has spoken candidly about the troubled journey of her 2023 film The Lady Killer, calling it one of the most heartbreaking experiences of her professional life. In a recent interview with Mid-Day, Bhumi revealed that the film which eventually reached theatres was not the project she had originally agreed to do.
According to the actor, nearly 35 per cent of the film was never shot. She explained that the script she had read was complete, but a significant portion of it was left unfilmed. What released in cinemas, she said, felt incomplete and far removed from the initial vision. Bhumi admitted she was in shock when she realised the makers had decided to release the film despite the missing portions.
The film, directed by Ajay Behl and co starring Arjun Kapoor, turned out to be one of the biggest box office failures in recent years. Made on a reported budget of ₹45 crore, it earned only ₹60,000 on its opening day and wrapped up its theatrical run in less than a week with collections under ₹1 lakh. It later premiered on YouTube after failing to secure an OTT deal.
Bhumi said the episode left her questioning what went wrong and whether she could have done anything differently. She described the period as confusing and emotionally draining, adding that it took time to recover from the setback.
