Bihar Cabinet oath ceremony tomorrow — Deputy CM yet to be decided

The oath-taking ceremony for Bihar’s new cabinet is scheduled for this Thursday at the famous Gandhi Maidan in Patna. The state’s longest-serving chief minister, JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, is expected to regain the top political position. As people anticipate the new government formation and portfolio allocation, there are various names in fray. With JD(U) nominating Nitish Kumar as the leader of NDA party legislature in the state, 20 other ministers would be taking oath tomorrow.

Former Nitish Kumar deputies Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha are once again vying for important positions. Vijay Kumar Sinha was selected as the deputy leader and Samrat Chaudhary as the leader of the BJP parliamentary party on Wednesday. According to an ABP newspaper, the two are once more being considered for the coveted position, along with Mangal Pandey of the saffron party.

According to reports, Sinha is being considered for the position of Speaker. In the most recent assembly elections, Chaudhary became victorious from the Tarapur seat, defeating Sakaldeo Bind of the Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP) and Arun Kumar of the RJD. In a same vein, Pandey secured the NDA seat in Siwan, while Sinha won from Lakhisarai.

Chirag Paswan, a Lok Sabha MP and leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), is said to have sought the position of deputy chief minister, but the BJP and JD(U) rejected his requests. The Times of India reported that the NDA alliance group’s members conducted lengthy internal meetings on Tuesday to talk about the ministerial positions and the composition of the incoming Bihar government. Chirag Paswan’s party, which has 19 MLAs, is regarded as a major Dalit vote mobiliser.
