Bikaner: The first city in India to start door-to-door vaccination

On Saturday, district collector Namit Mehta launched a ‘vaccine on wheels’ drive in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Under the drive, a group of ten people aged 45 years and above will be able to team up and dial the call centre set up by the district administration for a dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

The district collector said a team of health department officials will reach the location where the beneficiaries have gathered and vaccinate them. The beneficiaries are required to register themselves for the COVID-19 vaccine doses by providing their names along with addresses through the WhatsApp helpline number, issued by the district administration.

The prime objective of this scheme is to help the unwell elderly people who cannot reach a vaccination centre. The drive will begin on June 14 and will only be for people above 45 years of age, as per reports.

To fasten the vaccinations, mobile parks are going to get parked at crowded places in the city for two hours where people aged 45 and above can get inoculated. Three such vans were parked in the city of Bikaner on June 12. It has set a target of vaccinating 75 percent of individuals above the age of 45.

A meeting was conducted on Friday night to discuss both initiatives. The conclusion was to implement it from Saturday. According to officials, the drive will gradually begin in other areas of the district.

Presently, people are being inoculated at both government and private vaccination centres all over the country.
