Bitcoins provided to drug peddlers, man arrested

For providing bitcoins to drug peddlers, a man identified as Makarand Adivirkar was arrested by the NCB on Wednesday who wanted to order narcotics using the dark web from foreign countries. The accused used to place orders using his bitcoin wallet and would take payment in cash along with keeping his commission. In at least 2 cases of financing drug parcels to the country, Makarand was involved as claimed by the NCB.

20 LSD blots from Marve Road, Malad (West), Mumbai was seized by the NCB Mumbai on November 20 last year as said by an official. Using bitcoin by a drug peddler from Mumbai, the seized psychotropic substance was purchased from Europe. For providing bitcoin for the purchase of the LSD, Adivirkar was also known as the “crypto king,” was arrested by the NCB Mumbai in the city based on their inputs.

Bitcoins are used for illicit trafficking of drugs worldwide especially LSD along with other drugs such as ecstasy heroin, hydroponic weeds, buds etc., by the sellers of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in some countries as said by the officials. Makarand Adivirkar was found to be providing bitcoins for purchasing drugs in various parts of the city as claimed by an NCB official.
