The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed Kangana Ranaut’s petition for a stay of the trial related to a defamation suit filed against her by lyricist Javed Akhtar. According to Livelaw.in, the Bombay High Court denied Kangana’s writ petition in the defamation case filed by Javed in 2020. The actress had also sought for the lawsuit to be joined with the cross-complaint, which she eventually filed against him.
According to the report, Justice Prakash Naik issued the order and ruled that the cases could not be delayed or clubbed since Javed Akhtar’s complaint had been filed first and Kangana Ranaut had never contended that the cases were cross-cases. He said, “At this stage the relief sought in the petition cannot be granted. Earlier it was never contended by the petitioner (Kangana) that both cases are cross cases.”
Kangana’s complaint against Javed Akhtar was stayed by the Sessions Court, however, the defamation case Javed filed against Kangana is still ongoing before the Andheri magistrate. The actress stated in her writ petition that both cases arose from a 2016 meeting and should thus be tried together.
Javed filed a case against Kangana Ranaut in 2020 after she accused him of threatening her in an interview following her ugly fight with Hrithik Roshan over their alleged affair.
