Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor recently opened up about one of the most difficult chapters of his life balancing his responsibilities between his first wife, Mona Shourie Kapoor, and his second marriage to legendary actress Sridevi. In a heartfelt conversation with Chanda Kochhar, he revealed how Mona handled the situation with dignity and selflessness.
Boney married Mona in 1983 before tying the knot with Sridevi in 1996, a move that stirred public controversy at the time. Yet, he recalled with gratitude that Mona never poisoned their children’s minds against him. “Look at this ring I’m wearing and the one Sridevi was wearing. Both were bought by Mona. She brought the children up without creating any kind of hatred toward me or the other kids,” Boney said, acknowledging her extraordinary strength.
The filmmaker admitted that he often felt torn, especially when Sridevi lost her parents. He shared how his son Arjun once wrote him a letter asking, “Why don’t you come home?” Reflecting on those times, Boney said he had to divide himself between his children and Sridevi, though it pained him deeply.
Despite the turmoil, Mona’s maturity allowed the family to eventually find peace. After Sridevi’s sudden death in 2018, Boney embraced a more unified family dynamic. Today, he cherishes the bond shared by all four of his children Arjun, Anshula, Janhvi, and Khushi and credits Mona for laying the foundation of understanding that kept the family together.
