Border 2 maintained solid on its second Friday, garnering almost Rs. 10 crore nett, nearly matching Thursday and indicating a tiny decline. The decline from opening day is 65%, which is an excellent hold for a picture that performed well. This puts the film’s second weekend gross at Rs. 45-50 crore, perhaps closer to the higher end. The film’s total box office collections are currently around Rs. 216.25 crore nett, and it is expected to reach Rs. 250 crore by the end of its second weekend.
The film showed an incredible trend last weekend, but commerce dropped during the week, notably on Wednesday. With such dips, there is always the possibility of a drop on the second Friday, particularly for films performing well in smaller markets. However, the film steadied yesterday and should make significant gains over the weekend. Ironically, the film is pushed by multiplexes and larger centers, demonstrating a similar pattern, despite the fact that it is expected to perform better elsewhere.
The hold yesterday has also reinforced the film’s chances of earning Rs. 300 crore nett, which was always possible, but if it had dropped too much yesterday, there would have been questions. The Sunny Deol-starrer will now aim for Rs. 325 crore nett or higher, with an outside chance of reaching Rs. 350 crore nett. Post-pandemic, films were either exceeding Rs. 500 crore nett or battling to reach Rs. 300 crore nett, till Saiyaara last year. Border 2 will be another unique film in this massive Rs. 200 crore nett deficit.
