Border 2 is seeing some traction on the final day of early purchases. The Sunny Deol-led war film sold approximately 110K tickets at the two national chains (PVR INOX and Cinepolis) at 9 p.m. The last advance should be over $130,000, with a likely ultimate figure of over $135,000.
The total opening day advance is currently about Rs. 8 crore nett, and it is expected to reach Rs. 10 crore nett. While these are good developments, you would expect more from a film like Border 2. In comparison, Gadar 2 sold 274K tickets across two national chains and received a nett advance of Rs. 15 crore on its first day.
While the number of tickets sold in advance is less than half that of Gadar 2, the financial disparity is less since Border 2 is being launched with “Blockbuster ticket pricing,” whereas Gadar 2 was released with conventional ticket rates. On the final day, progress will more than double, a very robust pattern that sets the tone for what comes next.
This is entirely expected of a picture like Border 2, which performs well in smaller towns across the Hindi belt. These centers rely heavily on current and walk-up sales rather than advances. Whatever advances they do receive are typically on the final day, closer to release. The hope is that these centres would perform well in the present sales tomorrow.
According to early estimates, Border 2 will earn roughly Rs. 30 crore nett on its first day. With stronger walk-up business, it might reach Rs. 35 crore nett. The pre-sales for Sunday and Monday are already looking good. For the past three decades, the country has watched Border on television during Republic Day. This year, they will have Border 2 to watch in theaters, and if the reception is favorable, it will be a huge day.
