According to a recent source, three members of the original cast—Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, and Sudesh Berry—will make brief appearances in the sequel, Border 2, while Sunny Deol is the only member of the original cast to return. According to Mid-Day, all three of the performers from JP Dutta’s successful 1997 film Border will make brief cameos in Border 2.
The sequel takes place during the 1971 India-Pakistan War, just as the previous movie. The characters from the first movie will act as their counterparts because Border 2 is likewise set against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan conflict. Anurag and producer-writer Nidhi Dutta thought it would be a great experience if they included the heroic characters from the 1997 war movie.
They therefore included this section. Before the 1971 battle starts, the characters from the old and new movies will meet at an event. According to a source cited in the publication, “It’s a great idea because it not only brings the father-son duo of Suniel and Ahan on screen but also harks back to the much-loved movie.”
All of the performers are noticeably older now that Border has been out for 28 years. However, because the plot of Border 2 is set in the same era as the previous movie, the creators are digitally de-aging them. Akshaye and Sudesh filmed their parts in Mumbai in November. Suniel has been filming a new project where he has a unique appearance.
He will therefore need special effects because his segments were filmed against a green screen. According to the source, “all three actors will be de-aged in keeping with their Border avatars.” Sunny Deol, Akshaye, Suniel, Sidesh Berry, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Puneet Issar, and Jackie Shroff appeared in JP Dutta’s film Border. The movie was a tremendous box office hit and is considered by many to be among the best war movies produced in India.
Sunny returns to the cast of Anurag Singh’s Border 2, which also stars Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. On January 23, 2026, Border 2 will be released.
