Filmmaking on the scale of a war drama often brings unique challenges, and Border 2 has been no exception. Director Anurag Singh recently spoke about the intense effort required to mount the film, which stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahaan Shetty. According to the director, the biggest test came from staging massive action sequences without depending on green screens.
Anurag explained that the film was shot largely on real locations, including Dehradun and Jhansi, which added both authenticity and complexity. With nearly 300 to 400 crew members present on set during major sequences, managing logistics became a daily challenge. Weather conditions also played a role, as the team had to work through extreme cold during some schedules and intense summer heat during others.
The director noted that war scenes demand flawless coordination. Explosions, fire effects and actor movements had to be timed with precision, while hundreds of background performers recreated the chaos of a battlefield. Unlike smaller action setups, these sequences involved close to 500 people moving together, leaving no room for error.
Adding to the difficulty were the aerial combat scenes. Since the use of real fighter planes was not possible, these moments had to be created entirely through visual effects, requiring careful planning to ensure they blended seamlessly with live-action footage.
Beyond the technical demands, Anurag emphasised that balancing emotion with action was the real challenge. He highlighted Varun Dhawan’s trench sequence, which needed to feel raw and realistic, and Sunny Deol’s tank scenes, which had to deliver power while carrying emotional impact. Bringing all these elements together, he said, was the most demanding part of making Border 2.
