The ministry of external affairs said that UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson was disappointed for not being able to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi in person at the G7 summit. PM Narendra Modi attended the G7 summit virtually.

In the virtual meet of PM Modi at the G7 summit, he pitched for a coordinated global response against the COVID-19 virus and future pandemics with the mantra “One Earth, One Health.” PM Modi sought support for the proposal initiated by India and South Africa at the WTO (World Trade Organisation) for a waiver of patent protection of the COVID-19 vaccines and technologies.

Boris Johnson hoped the ‘group of seven summit’ would showcase support to British leadership on crucial issues. The issues included the action to cut the carbon emissions and the commitment to help vaccinate the world to bring the COVID-19 pandemic to an end.

UK’s prime minister invited PM Modi to attend the outreach component of the G7 Summit being held in Cornwall in the UK from June 11 to June 13 along with Australia, Republic of Korea and South Africa as a guest. The G7 nations comprise of the US, UK, Germany, France, Canada, Italy and Japan. UK held the presidency for G7 Leader’s Summit 2021.

The three day summit was concluded on Sunday as the leaders of the summit adopted Joe Biden’s ‘build back better’ mantra, with a vow to end the COVID-19 pandemic and to combat the climate change.
