Brazil keeps search for striker against Peru at Copa America

In Brazil’s Copa America match against Peru on Thursday, coach Tite intimated that he’ll keep looking for his ideal striking force.
At practice on Tuesday, Tite put Everton Ribeiro, Everton, and Gabriel Barbosa upfront instead of Lucas Paqueta, Richarlison, and Gabriel Jesus, who started Brazil’s 3-0 victory against Venezuela in the tournament opener on Sunday.

While the Brazilian soccer confederation was broadcasting training to the media, Roberto Firmino, who was on the bench against Venezuela, did not participate in the practice game. The coach also tested a defensive midfield partnership with Fabinho partnering Fred instead of Casemiro and Thiago Silva replacing Marquinhos as Eder Militao’s teammate.

Tite has stated that Copa America’s 20 days will be utilised to test some things in preparation for next year’s World Cup in Qatar. He and his teammates have publicly said that they oppose the Copa America being held in Brazil during the COVID-19 outbreak, but that they will always respond to national selection calls.

Fred, the Brazilian midfielder, seems to disagree with his manager, claiming that the national team is already in good shape for Qatar.

Brazil comfortably defeated Peru 3-1 in the 2019 Copa America final two years ago. The Peruvians then turned to attacker Paolo Guerrero, who will not be in Rio for the match. Per had just returned from its first appearance in the World Cup in decades.
The situation has completely changed now, with Ricardo Gareca’s team in bottom place in the South American World Cup qualifiers.

Despite worrying Covid-19 results, the Copa America is held in Brazil after Colombia and Argentina were ousted as co-hosts. Peru held its first practice session in Brazil amid concerns about the squad’s health.
Nestor Bonillo, a fitness coach in Lima tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday. He didn’t travel to Brazil.

It was unclear whether he was one of the 52 confirmed cases linked to the event by Brazil’s health ministry. Gareca has not announced his starting lineup for the match against Brazil.
