On Saturday, the Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was fined $100 for the violation of COVID-19 measures in Sao Paulo state by failing to wear a face mask and provoking huge crowds at a motorcycle rally for the supporters.
“Accelerate for Christ” rally that took place in Sai Paulo, was led by President Jair Bolsonaro, where thousands of roaring motorcycles took a part.
The president was wearing an open-faced helmet and no mask which was in violation of the state health regulations.
Such rallies have been held up by Bolsonaro all across Brazil, as he prepares for the next year’s re-election.
Joao Doria, Sao Paulo’s Governor, and a political rival of the president, had given a prior warning in which he said that if the president failed to observe the state regulations then he would be fined.
Bolsonaro has repeatedly clashed with Doria and other Governors, over the measures against COVID-19, which has claimed almost 4,85,000 lives in Brazil, which comes second after the US.
The president is often found criticising the stay-at-home measures and face masks, instead promotes the medications such as chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine despite the studies showing the inefficiency against COVID-19 virus, as per reports by India Today.
Bolsonaro, while addressing the supporters, renewed his comments against the face masks, and said that he has planned to order that the mask requirements for vaccinated people to be revoked.
