Breaking: RG Kar ex-principal Sandip Ghosh is arrested for financial fraud

On Monday, Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) anti-corruption section. As per officials, Sandip was arrested for alleged ‘financial fraud’ at the RG Kar hospital.

Sandeep was interrogated for 15 days at the CBI’s Salt Lake office for the suspected rape and murder of the RG Kar hospital post-graduate trainee on August 9. He also underwent polygraph testing. Sandip Ghosh was transferred to the CBI Anti-Corruption Branch in Nizam Palace from the CBI Special Crime Branch office in Kolkata’s Salt Lake CGO Complex.

According to earlier reports, Debasish Som, a demonstrator in the Forensic Medicine Department at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata and a key witness in the same institution’s financial irregularities case, was admitted in critical condition to a private hospital in Kolkata on Sunday. Debashish Som is a significant eyewitness in the case, as it has been alleged that under Ghosh’s guidance, organs from unidentified individuals transported to the hospital for post-mortem were often sold on the black market at a premium.

In addition to the Kolkata doctor rape case, Sandip Ghosh was being investigated for potential financial conduct at RG Kar Hospital. As soon as Sandip Ghosh was arrested, junior doctors who had been opposing the Kolkata doctor rape case began to celebrate. Dr Akhtar Ali, the former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Hospital, filed numerous accusations about financial irregularities at the facility during Ghosh’s stint as principal.

Sandip Ghosh had already resigned as the principal of the RG Kar Hospital. He was, however, reinstated as principal of the National Medical College and Hospital, a Bengal government-run hospital.
